LWA January 24 Arena Report

Posted by reimaginejournalism on January 30, 2009

By Kari Williams

Going back to their home base, Lethal Wrestling Alliance had a number of high profile matches for the 115 fans to look forward to at the Knights of Columbus Hall in House Springs, MO, but none more exciting than LWA Champion “The Rebel” Jeremy Wyatt versus Dingo. But of greater importance as the show kicked off was the fact that Dr. Katz, a doctor Jewells hired, said that a number of the stars were unable to compete.

‘Future’ Donovan Ruddick, Gary the Barnowl, XXX Jordan Lacey, Shorty Biggs and Billy McNeil all came to ringside complaining about Dr. Katz’s unusual diagnosis respective of each individual. K.C. Karrington then came out and said that he got a fax on his portable fax machine from Katz stating that he could not wrestle either.

LWA President Luke Roberts addressed the situation and called Katz to ringside to reveal some disturbing information about the so-called doctor. According to Roberts, Katz had three counts of downloading child porn against him, two counts of assumming another person’s identity and 36 counts of have sex with farm animals. Upon the release of this information, Jewells revealed that she made the athletes unable to compete because they are all worthless and do not deserve to be in the main event, let alone in the ring. Roberts allowed all of the men to compete that evening and announced that when LWA returns to House Springs on Feb. 21, Lacey and Ruddick will take on Wyatt and Jewells.

Mike Sydal took on the returning Tyler Cook in the first bout of the evening. Before the match truly got underway, Cook made a comment about Sydal’s body glitter, to which Sydal replied, “I sparkle because I have such a bright future in this business.” Cook controlled the first portion of the match and had Sydal down but only for a two count. Sydal soon turned the tide, but when he missed a high impact move, he gave Cook a chance to gain momentum, which did not last long. Sydal used his wit to steal a win with a roll-up and holding the tights for extra leverage.

Commissioner Adam Raw ventured to the ring to lay down some ground rules for the upcoming six-man tag match and call the Bearded Men and the Submission Squad to ringside. Raw decided that the losing team had to break up and that they will never team together again. He then goes even further, saying that each team must pick a captain—Billy McNeil and Pierre Abernathy were named—and the captain of the losing team would never be seen in LWA again. The commissioner’s final statement was that the match would be no disqualification.

Getting back to the action, Dorian Victor wrestled Shorty Biggs, continuing their feud. These two men took the fight to each other, but the fans did not take to this match as much as their previous battles. At one point, Victor locked Biggs in a double-leg Boston crab, but Biggs reached the ropes. Victor did his best to keep Biggs down, but he could not do so for much longer, as Biggs his Victor with a boot followed by the Shortcut for the victory. Biggs then got revegne on Victor for previous low blows by returning the favor.

Up next was the No-DQ six-man tag match. Davey Vega, Pierre Abernathy and Evan Gelistico have been hellbent on ending the Bearded Men’s stable from the beginning. However, Jordan Lacey, Billy McNeil and Gary the Barnowl would not go down without a fight. All of these men fought for their lives, so to speak, as they brawled in and out of the ring. At one point, McNeil, Lacey and Gary had their opportunity—in succession—to launch across the ring and plant the Submission Squad to the ground. There was chaos everywhere, with neither team gaining a clear advantage. Near the end of the match, Gelistico threw Gary to the outside, and Gary landed hard on the ring entrance and Lacey was smashed through a table.

The match ended with Abernathy pinning Gary, but Abernathy had his feet on the ropes. Much to the dismay of the fans, the Bearded Men had to break up, but before the Submission Squad went to the back, Gelistico revealed that McNeil had taken him to Space Station Eleven and made clones of himself, one of which being Super Electro. He then went on to say that he is Gary’s father. Looking confused and upset, Gary left with the Submission Squad as McNeil thanked the LWA fans for the last time.

At intermission, LWA’s own “Spoiled” Steven Kennedy played with his band, Noiseland, much to the delight of the crowd. Noiseland played some original songs and a couple of covers. Kennedy brought Karrington out as a guest band member playing the spoons.

Before getting back to the matches, Ring Announcer Paul Parker called Roberts and Raw to ringside. Roberts had many ideas to make LWA better. Starting at the next show, bell time will be 7:00 instead of 7:30, ticket prices will be reduced on a permanent basis and beer may become only 50 cents. He also stated that he needs someone who bleeds LWA and is a former champion. Raw ruled out the choices of Frankie Big Balls, Mag Dog Dafronian and Nick Tyson, and then announced that Dingo v. Wyatt would change to a Jefferson County/House Springs Street Fight.

The Ego Express defended their tag titles against B.A.B.E.WATCH (“Thee” Brandon Espinosa and “Irresistably Flawless” Brandon Aarons) in one of the best matches of the night. B.A.B.E.WATCH has become the team to watch as the top contenders to the titles. Espinosa and Aarons did their best to come out on top, working more cohesively than they have before. However, they were not able to capture the gold on this exchange, as Kennedy and Karrington’s experience as a tag team aided them in the end. Kennedy pinned Espinosa after the Fatality and decisively ended the bout.

Follwing the impressive tag match, Mark Sterling took on Shamus O’ Flannery in a one-sided affair. Every time O’ Flannery tried to gain an advantage, Sterling used his strength to overpower him. Nonetheless, O’ Flannery did attempt to wear down Sterling by attacking Sterling’s knee, but it was not enough. Sterling locked O’ Flannery in the Markshooter and O’ Flannery had no choice but to tap out.

LWA Champion Jeremy Wyatt was in for a brutal fight against Dingo. These two men beat the hell out of each other all around the building. Fans ran from their seats and scurried away from the competitors to ensure that they were not hit. Both men scored multiple pinfalls but still could not put the other one away. Dingo and Wyatt even went so far as to bring one of the light posts that surround the ring into the match. Dingo had the title won via submission, but just as Wyatt was about to tap, he poked the referee in the eye, injuring the ref, so that the tapout would not count. He then used his trickery to steal the win with a rollup and a handful of tights. By the time the match was over, Dingo was a bloody mess and Wyatt left with the smug satisfaction that he had defeated one of the best wrestler in the Midwest. Only mere moments after the devastating brawl, Ruddick emerged and gave Wyatt a spinebuster and layed the belt across a wounded Wyatt.

LWA will return to House Springs, MO with a new start time, lower ticket prices and a tag match that you will not want to miss.

MMWA-SICW Jan. 17 recap

Posted by reimaginejournalism on January 29, 2009

By Kari Williams and Patrick Brandmeyer

MMWA-SICW kicked off its year in East Carondelet, IL with a night of unique match ups, with The Connection trying to control assert their dominance yet again and champions fighting for everything to retain their titles.

“Night Train” Gary Jackson took fans on an impressive ride during his main event battle with Connection Member Phil E. Blunt with Jackson’s Heavyweight title on the line. Connection Manager Travis Cook—who was at ringside with Blunt—tried getting involved in the match early on. When Blunt gained the upper hand and tossed Jackson to the outside, Cook attempted to attack the champion but ended up being chased around the ring by “Night Train,” causing just enough of a distraction for Blunt maintain the advantage. Slowly, Jackson began to turn the tide in his favor and he relentlessly pummeled Blunt. However, Blunt’s evil tactics took control once again, as he choked Jackson.

The fans were solely behind the champion, and once they started chanting for Jackson, he strived to get control, but Cook interfered yet again, right at the 10 minute mark. The two men then battled recklessly for the remainder of the bout, with each scoring nearfalls. Just as Blunt looked like he would gain the belt, he had a confrontation with Commissioner Keith Smith, causing just enough of a distraction for Jackson to score a victory with a roll-up.

After the match, Cook provoked Referee Jim Harris, and Harris took off his shirt, prompting Jackson to put it on and pretend that he would be the ref in a match between the two, but Cook ran to the back like a scolded dog. Jackson then told the Connection, if they want some, come get some, and he called out Shaft, who had been at ringside watching the match.

Jeremy Lightfoot and Shaft continued their seemingly endless feud once again. However, they seemed to have a newfound respect for one another, as the match began with a handshake. Although slow to get started, Lightfoot and Shaft turned their bout into a brawl as they went back and forth, both inside and outside of the ring. At one point, Lightfoot shot Shaft into the table with the ring bell and Shaft landed face first on the bell and even pulled it down with him. Later on, as the two men waged battle on the outside yet again, Lightfoot took a fan’s (my) water bottle, drank nearly all that was left, then smashed the bottle over Shaft’s head. The match ended in a double count out at just over 16 minutes and the two continued fighting to the back.

Previously, the fan favorite, A.J. Williams defended his Junior Heavyweight Title against Bobby D. The challenger controlled the beginning of the match and when Williams appeared to have injured his knee, D took notice and targeted the area. Just after the five minute mark, Williams had the opportunity to connect with a superkick, but he could not capitalize on the situation. With guts and determination, Williams continued his attack, despite the injury, and though D snuck in a few select offensive moves, Williams decisively ended the bout with another superkick at 11:20.

The Connection’s newest and most promising member, Dave Vaughn took on Eric Brewer. Vaughn’s pure athleticism clashed with Brewer’s more hard-hitting style, delivering one of the best matches of the evening. Vaughn dominated the majority of the match up with only a slight assistance from Cook, proving that The Connection has enough belief in him that he can win a match on his own terms. Nonetheless, Brewer pummeled Vaughn at every possible opening. In the closing moments, Vaughn readied himself for a spear, but Brewer telegraphed the maneuver. Mere moments later, Cook caused a distraction, giving Vaughn enough time to recover from Brewer’s spinebuster and connect with the second spear and lock up another victory for The Connection.

Prior to the match, Cook, Blunt and Vaughn came to ringside complaining about Jerome Cody’s suspension, which occurred at the show in St. Louis, MO the previous week. Cook proclaimed that his lawyers are trying to overturn the suspension and stated, “We are not down. We are not out. We are bigger and better than ever.”

The first title match of the evening pitted Women’s Champion Alexis Lightfoot against the former champion in Stacey O’ Brien. O’ Brien’s determination to regain the belt showed in every punch and every kick. She controlled the second half of the bout and had Alexis ready for the pin, but just after 10 minutes, Alexis began to feel her title slipping away, causing her to comeback viciously and retain.

Due to scheduling conflicts, this reporter missed the first two matches, and Patrick Brandmeyer has the rest of the details from the night.

The second matchup was Waco (w/ Big Texan) v. Saladin. Neither guy was all that popular with the East Carondelet audience, and neither seemed all that interested in changing that opinion. Both men used underhanded tactics, but Waco came out on top with a rollup and handful of tights.

In the opener Billy Diamond wrestled Big Texan w/ Waco. Texan focused his attack on the back, while Diamond attempted to work the leg to cut the big man down to size. The finish came when Diamond hit a Stunner, but Waco broke up the pin for the DQ. The masked team beat down Diamond until Jeremy Lightfoot hit the ring with a kendo stick and cleaned house.

The next MMWA-SICW show will take place Feb. 14 at the South Broadway Athletic Club in St. Louis, MO followed up the next weekend returning to the East Carondelet Community Center.

High Voltage Wrestling - Chaos is bound to happen.

The First HVW Midwest Live Event happened on October 4th in Granite City Illinois at The Rivers Edge Complex. This first event featured 7 matches including the first round of a tournament to crown the first ever HVW Midwest Champion. The first tournament match pitted seasoned veteran Adam Evans w/ Magic Man against Up and comer “Thee” Brandon Espinosa. They both fought valiantly but in the end a miscommunication between Magic and Adam saw Magic Accidentally burn his own man with a fire ball causing a DQ and allowing Brandon to advance. The second tournament match Featured The 6 ‘ 9″ Monster Donovan Ruddick taking on Florida independent Star Bobby Danger. Even though there was a huge size difference between the two it was an evenly fought contest. Bobby used his speed, agility and MMA experience to hold Ruddick at bay. But in the end Ruddick came out on top and advanced. The rest of the card featured the top talent from all over the Midwest including Gary Jay, Pierre Abernathy, Dacobra, Cecil Cerveza, Jon Divosi, The Bandana Mafia[Evan Gelistico, Davey Vega], Steven Kennedy, The Hybrids and more.

The second HVW Midwest event was on November 22nd also in Granite City, Illinois. The main event had Brandon Espinosa scheduled to face Donovan Ruddick to determine the first ever HVW Midwest Champion. Right before the match Started Magic Man came out with his new charge Kahagas and demanded that Kahagas be added to the match. He went on to explain how his man is a Champion in Florida, has wrestled all over the world and just that very evening he had defeated one of the top Midwest wrestlers in Jeremy Wyatt. Keny G allowed Kahagas into the match that turned out to be a barn burner. All three men fought valiantly, but during the course of the match Magic Man first stopped his man Kahagas from using his Kendo stick then later tripped him up. In the end Future with Magic Mans help became the first ever HVW Midwest Champion. There was also a grudge match between Keny G and Mephisto resulting from an incident at the first event. On Oct. 4th Keny was talking to the fans when Kris Synz came out bad mouthing Keny who then proceeded to take out the garbage that is Kris Synz. Mephisto then came out and he and Keny had a knock down drag out fight to the back. This set up this grudge match that was fought with intensity by both men, until Kris Synz came out and interfered causing a DQ. This brought out Keny’s new body guard Wicked Stiff Johnson who speared Synz into next week then clearing the ring of Mephisto too. There also another highly anticipated match featuring Dacobra taking on Mark Sterling. Both of these men are two of the best in the Midwest and they proved it by having a great back and fourth match that showed they deserved to be in the semi-main event.

Kahagas and the Blackharts have thrilled High Voltage Wrestling fans.

NBWA” New Beginnings ” January 11 recap

Posted by flairwhoooooo on January 23, 2009

By Rich Dalton

To begin the show, Jason Vendetta makes his way to the ring and demands a rematch against DaCobra, who had defeated Vendetta on Dec. 6th for the Alberta J. Murray Memorial Championship in a Ladder Match. Vendetta claimed that he was screwed out of his trophy by special guest referee Angelo Santelli. Santelli delivered a “Sky High” spine buster from atop the ladder on Vendetta, but only after Vendetta used the banned flipping pile driver, “The Detenator” on DaCobra. The Lead Council to the Board of Directors, Jonathon Castle said that Vendetta was not going to get a rematch, and furthermore DaCobra hadn’t even arrived at the arena as of yet. So, in a show of protest Vendetta sat in the middle of the ring and said the show would not start until he was granted his rematch, but Mr. Castle assure Vendetta that the show WAS going to begin!

Lovely Miss Amanda announced the first match of the afternoon as being for the NBWA Mid-West Championship, and would be the champion, Wild Bill accompanied to the ring by Brandi Harris vs former NBWA Heavyweight Champion, Eric Ruffington. Ruffington and Wild Bill, not knowing what to think of Vendetta still sitting in the middle of the ring began their match. During the opening moments, it was clear that Vendetta wasn’t going to leave the ring after Bill and Ruffington locked up, and Jason Vendetta was caught in between them, in frustration, Bill threw Vendetta out of the ring, only to have him return and reclaim his spot in the center of the ring. Bill and Ruffingon continued their match trying to wrestle around Vendetta but that proved to be easier said than done. In the end, Eric Ruffington was the winner of the match(with a little help from Jason Vendetta)and the new NBWA Mid-West Champion!

Winner by pinfall, and new NBWA Mid-West Champion Eric Ruffington!

Eric Ruffington ( NBWA Mid-West Champion)

Eric Ruffington ( NBWA Mid-West Champion)

Following the match, Vendetta reitereated that he wasn’t leaving the ring until he got his rematch! Who should come to the ring but NBWA Heavyweight /Heritage Champion, “Bloody” Harker Dirge! Harker says that he, like the NBWA fans are tired of listening to Vendetta’s whining and said that since he didn’t have an opponent lined up for the afternoon, and wanted to get a paycheck this week, he challenged Vendetta to a match.

The second match of the afternoon was a Gauntlet Match featuring Issan Hadeev, with a special stipulation that if Issan lost against any of his 4 opponents he would have to sing The national Anthem. Issan’s first opponent was Jordan “Shorty” Vandel, who was making his NBWA debut. Unfortunately for Jordan, it was a short lived debut, Issan had won match #1.

For match #2 Issan’s opponent was Christian Rose, who was also making his NBWA debut, and just like Jordan, didn’t last very long against an angry “Arabian Assassin”.Match #3 for Hadeev was against Nicky “The Weasel” Mankotti. Weasel fared far better than the two previous opponents, but ultimately it was the same result, Issan had beaten Weasel in the 3rd match with “The Camel Clutch”. Finally Issan Hadeev’s 4th opponent for the day was “Da Best Kept Secret” D’Andre King. This match was the most competative of the gauntlet, it started out with Issan and D’Andre testing each others strength, and then they took turns with running shoulder blocks, but neither man would budge. We saw a couple of big suplex’s from D’Andre, and both men each hit a spinebuster on the other, but in the end Issan was victorious in match #4 following a “Jihad” neckbreaker.

Winner: Issan Hadeev

The next match of the afternoon was the very first NBWA women’s match, featuring Brandi Harris vs Jessika Haze. It was a great match for “Little Sis”, considering she won the match, but it was the aftermath that everyone was talking about . After Brandi’s big win in her debut, Wild Bill joined her in the celebration and in a real shocker, Brandi dropped to her knees and nailed Bill with an uppercut to the groin, and then got on the mic and told everyone what a looser Bill was!

Winner by pinfall: Brandi Harris

Up next, Mr. Castle came back to the ring to make the announcement that due to Simply Divosi’s broken clavical that he suffered in an ATV accident over the holidays, the NBWA No-Limits Championship was going to be up for grabs in this next match. The match was between Nick Cuttler, and “The Apex” Blake Steel. Steel made his way to the ring preceded by Anderson Rhodes, and Eric Ruffington, but what came as a shock was that Blake had asked Anderson and Eric to leave ringside, Blake said that he wanted to win the title on his own. This pleased the crowed, who was rather oddly cheering for Blake for the entire match. And what a match it was, it saw both competitors get near falls, and multiple submission holds. In the end Nick Cutler was victorious!

Winner by pinfall, and new NBWA No-Limits Champion: Nick Cutler

Nick Cuttler,( NBWA No-Limits Champion

Nick Cuttler,( NBWA No-Limits Champion)

After a short intermission, we get back to the action with a NBWA Tag team Title match between “The Worlds Greatest Masked Tag Team” vs the team of Jeff Harris and Aaron Matthews. It was a fast paced, action packed match that saw yet another betrayal. During the closing moments of the match, a fatigued Cheapshot McGrot was attempting to make a tag to his partner, but Cyclone refused the tag, backing away from the corner, signaling that he wasn’t getting in the match leaving Cheapshot to fend for himself. “Jeff and Aaron” then won the match when Aaron Matthews hit a Shooting Star Press on Cheapshot and then got the 1..2..3!

Winner’s and new NBWA tag Team Champions” Jeff and Aaron”
Following the match Cyclone helped celebrate the win with Matthews and Harris

Next up was the debut of “The Japanese Nightmare” Kahagas, and hi opponent was the 2008 Alberta J. Murray Memorial Champion DaCobra. For those who didn’t see this match you missed a vicious man in action, you can see why Kahagas is called “The Japanese Nightmare”, it not often that you see DaCobra manhandled the way he was in the opening minutes of the match, literally being tossed around like a ragdoll! Following a brief timeout from DaCobra to regroup he re entered the ring using his speed and quickness to combat Kahagas rather than strength. The rest of the match featured quick kicks from DaCobra, and Kahagas always seemed to match DaCobra kick for kick. One advantage Kahagas had was his sickening chops, he must have hit half a dozen bone chilling chop on DaCobra during the early goings of the match. In the final moments of the match Kahagas had DaCobra in the far corner of the ring, and hit a massive headbutt the the chest, and then began to unleash yet another series of vicious chops on DaCobra when DaCobra hit the mat and rolled Kahagas up in a small package for the 3 count.

Winner by pinfall: DaCobra

Following the match the NBWA crowd gave Kahagas a huge round of applause and chanted “Please Come Back”.

Next up was a tag team match between the team of Cecil Cerveza and “Dangerous” Drew Thomas, vs a team called “The Blackhearts” who were two VERY large men who were accompanied to the ring by “TNT” Keny G. Despite being the smaller of the two teams Cecil and Drew took all that the Blackhearts could give them, and then some, in the end though it was a bit of trickery that won the match for The Blackhearts. It looked as though Cecil had the match under control when he had one of the Blackhearts down, and Cecil turned his head for a moment and the Blackhearts pulled a switch-a-roo, while referee Tally was busy with Keny G. Cecil went to the top rope for a diving headbutt, but the fresh Blackheart rolled out of harms way, and that lead to a victory for The Blackhearts”

Winner by pinfall: The Blackhearts

Finally, for the main event of the evening, it was the NBWA heavyweight Champion “Bloody” Harker Dirge vs “#1″ Jason Vendetta, who was being accompanied to the ring by “Serenity” who we had previously know as Brandi Harris. During the early goings it was all Harker Dirge, that is until some help showed up for Jason Vendetta. Jeff Harris and Aaron Matthews came to the ring to help even the odds for Vendetta. While the referee was busy dealing with Serenity, Aaron had set up a steel chair in the corner of the ring for Vendetta to use to his advantage, and that’s exactly what happened. Vendetta used Harkers Head as a battering ram right into the steel chair, but Harker just wouldn’t quit, kicking out of the pin at a 2 count. It was another foreign object though that spelled the demise of BHD. While referee Tally was busy with Jeff and Aaron Serenity had gotten a pipe wrench from underneath the ring and slid it into Vendetta who then used the wrench to clock Harker right in the temple knocking him out cold. Vendetta went for the cover and got the 3 count!

Winner and new NBWA Heavyweight Champion: Jason Vendetta.

Serenity& Jason Vendetta (The NBWA Heavyweight Champion)

Serenity & Jason Vendetta (The NBWA Heavyweight Champion)

What a day it was at The New Breed Gym, four title changes in all, two betrayal’s, and six brand new faces in the ring!

We welcome everyone to join us on Saturday, February 7th for “Pick Your Poision” begining at 2:00 PM. Go to NBWA Myspace for more info.

See you there!

THE FAN SHOP- Where the customer is the #1 Fan.

By Brian “Flair ” Kelley

The Fan Shop (formerly known as The Pro Shirt Shop) has changed location and name this past fall, but hopes to carry on the tradition of providing the wrestling fans with a place in St Louis that they can come and buy wrestling merchandise, souvenirs and autographs.

store-picture-fan-shop

I went to their new location this past week and was delighted to not only see a wide range of merchandise but a mini museum of wrestling history. They had on display an autograph Cape from Hulk Hogan’s character Thunderlips from the movie Rocky 3 that really impressed me and for the younger generation there is a Rey Mysterio worn mask from his days in WCW. This is just a few of the fun stuff to check out at the “The Fan Shop”.

The store is now owned by wrestling manager Mr. Bigg and managed by fellow manager The Mat Maniac/ Mr. GQ Matthew Wayne Schuyler 3rd. With years in experience in the sport they are knowledgeable with a passion and love for the sport as you and I do.

If you know anything about me then you know I enjoy wrestling autobiographies and Wrestling shoot interviews. While I was in the store I picked up the Larry Matysik book Wrestling at the Chase- The Inside story of Sam Muchnick and the Legends of Professional Wrestling. A book so good I have had a hard time putting down long enough so that I can work on the Missouri Wrestling Revival site. The Fan Shop also has a wide range of classic St Louis Wrestling at the Chase videos you can catch up with the backbone of Professional wrestling’s History with matches that include Harley Race, Ric Flair,Dust Rhodes, Bruiser Brody, the Von Erich’s and much more.

Ladies, it is close to that time of the year where you will be searching for a Valentines gift for the special man in your life, why not try The Fan Shop? Show him that he is your World Champion with classic and current Replica Belts. Look for the T-shirt, action figure or DVD of his favorite wrestler, The Fan Shop also has many authentic autographs that will be sure to bring a smile to his day.

They also are branching out to All Sports- Collectibles and Autographs. Are you looking for a Custom Jersey or an Autograph come in the store to find out if they happen to have what you are looking for. If you are a fan of MMA, the Fan Shop should be a place for you too check out; while I was in the store my girlfriend even found her a sexy girl UFC shirt that impressed her proving that there is something in the store for anyone.
