Huge tournament wins for …..Jeff Strong, Jordan McEntyre and Gunner Franks .

Posted by flairwhoooooo on May 21, 2012

The last month of April was filled with three huge tournaments in the Midwest as PWE presented the Epic 8, Magnum Pro Wrestling delivered the Battle Royal cup and World League Wrestling had the finals to the Harley Race invitational tournament.

On Friday April 27th in Mt. Pulaski, Illinois the Epic 8 tournament (won by Brandon Espinosa last year ) saw an upset when the underrated Jordan McEntyre defeated Ring of Honor World Champion Davey Richards.

The very next night in Council Bluffs, Iowa for Magnum Pro Wrestling rising star Gunner Franks defeated Derek Cornell via a fire thunder piledriver thus not only becoming the tournament winner but the first ever Magnum Champion.

Main Event: “Unsanctioned Street Fight”

Derek Cornell vs Brian Gott

The fire has been brewing between these two for months on end. It all started when May of last year Brian Gott’s arm was broken in May of last year when he squared off against Derek Cornell in the main event of the show. It was later revealed that Derek Cornell meant to break Brian’s arm because he was holding him back. From their Cornell viciously belittled and attacked Brian on numerous occasions. The battle back and forth between these men has been brutal. Brian pinned Derek in the first round of the 2012 Battle Royale Cup, but Cornell cunningly got the ref to reverse the decision because Gott used his exposed elbow which has steel plates infused in it. Later that night, just when it looked like Cornell would cheat to win the MAGNUM PRO title, Brian ran in to make sure that didn’t happen, which Cornell feels cost him his shot at being the first ever champion. To close out the night Brian waited patiently for his opportunity to attack Cornell and when he did he reared back with beer bottle in hand to give Cornell a taste of his own medicine. This abruptly cleared the locker room out to diffuse the situation, and the rage between the men was palpable. Officials wanted to see an end to this, but couldn’t see the risk of hosting the match. It was decided that this “fight” between these men was going to be unsanctioned by MAGNUM PRO and that there are NO RULES and these men will fight to a finish. On May 26th will Gott get his revenge and his honor back?

The Knights of Fire reunite!

Jaysin Strife & Vic Victory (The Knights of Fire) vs Team Lariat

A reunion that has been years in the making, the Knights of Fire reunite to take on the wise cracking and mouthy Team Lariat on May 26th. Jaysin Strife and Vic Victory have been friends for over 20 years. Growing up together, best friends, they pursued their love of wrestling together and even for a brief time teamed together to win tag team titles in other promotions. These men know each other like the back of their hands, and the chemistry between them is unrivaled. It was time for a reunion and on this night it happens. The mouthiest team in MAGNUM PRO has requested the opportunity to step in the ring with these two men to prove that NO OTHER team will come into MAGNUM PRO and take their top spot as the “hottest tag team” in MAGNUM PRO today. Will the Knights of Fire have a successful reunion or will Team Lariat take care of business and continue to run amuck at MAGNUM PRO?

Women’s wrestling action:

Serenity vs “The First Lady of MAGNUM” Angelus Layne

Angelus has been a semi mainstay at MAGNUM PRO throughout the time. Last year in May she squared off against the ace of MAGNUM PRO and held her own against Jaysin Strife. From their she came back and showed how much she had improved by taking on Iowa local Kiandra in a hard hitting match which Angelus came out on top in. Not long after that Angelus wanted to prove herself, and win some of Brian Gott’s honor back, by facing Derek Cornell in a hard hitting bout for a spot in the BRC2. Although she came up on the short end of things, Angelus has proved she is a fighter. On May 26th, Angelus will step into the ring with the vicious Serenity. Serenity has been making a name for herself all around Illinois and has stepped into the ring with Angelus on numerous occasions. At the next MAGNUM PRO show we will see these two step into the ring under MAGNUM conditions, and under those you can guarantee it will be a hard hitting fight.

For the MAGNUM PRO championship:

Tony Cortez vs Gunner Franks ©

At the last MAGNUM PRO show, the Battle Royale Cup, we crowned a champion. That man went through 3 other men to win the BRC2 and become the first ever MAGNUM champion. That man was Gunner Franks. For Gunner’s first defense it was decided that he needed a viable opponent, someone who was more than capable of giving Gunner everything he has and more. MAGNUM officials decided that Tony Cortez was that man. Cortez has been a wild card in MAGNUM PRO, and he has constantly succeeded in almost all of his opportunities within the company. In January Cortez squared off against NWA World Heavyweight champion “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce in an amazing contest for the NWA title. Although Cortez came up short he proved that he can hang with the best that the world has to offer, and so it was decided that Gunner should be tested the same. On May 26th it is possible that Gunner’s first defense could be his last…

Young boy trial series:

Markus Crane vs Jeff O’ Shea

Shawn Nautilus vs Merlin Dean Banks

The MAGNUM PRO young boys are looking to get better and to do that they need to face more established professional wrestlers. Last year at “Trial By Fire” , Jeff O’ Shea took on Merlin Dean Banks in one of their first matches in front of a live crowd. One year later, these two men will walk opposite paths and face different opponents. How will these two fair? Could the under dogs claim victory, or will the boys be eating humble pie at the end of the night?

Also appearing:

Also appearing on May 26th: Knight Wagner, S.M. King, Supafli, and Donnie Peppercricket.

Due to unfortunate circumstances the Yellow Dog will not be appearing this night like originally advertised. Scheduling issues have arisen and the Yellow Dog will be competing in Mexico on this night. We apologize to any fans who looked forward to seeing the Dog return and we assure you that when the date opens up we will have him back.

AGNUM PRO would also like to thank it’s sponsors for this event: Command Center, Body Masters, Animal Instinct Clothing, Scorz Sports Center, and Select Communications Verizon Wireless Premium Retailer.
