MWR Post 3,000 – Strive to be like Pete Madden

Posted by flairwhoooooo on April 22, 2013

 photo 1071_zps8b953e0c.jpg

To be honest I looked for a photo of Madden with myself or Dubray Tallman but maybe we have never taken one together. Regardless that does not reflect the amount of respect I have for Madden as a person. In the ring he brings a 100%, as the monster Kevin X finds out as Madden uses a great wrestling move to get him off his feet- Photo Credit Brian Kelley

Good day to each and every one of you that have taken the time to support Missouri Wrestling Revival.com and pro wrestling in the Midwest throughout the past 5 plus years. Today, marks the day that we celebrate Missouri Wrestling Revival’s 3, 000 post.

As a lifelong wrestling fan, it has been a great journey to travel the roads throughout Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, and Illinois to work with many promoters, wrestlers, and fans that love the sport as much as I do.

For the promoters I hope that MWR has helped fans want to come and purchase a ticket to your show.

For the wrestlers, I hope MWR has been a way to get your name out to the fans and just maybe an extra booking here and there.

For my friends that are fans, I hope that you find MWR to be a nice place to visit to keep up with the news and to make plans to enjoy a weekend of pro wrestling in and out of the area.

MWR has no power to help wrestlers move up to WWE, ROH, or Japan; men like Brian Breaker was heading to WWE because of his talent and a smart decision to pay his dues at WLW with Harley Race. ACH was well on his way to ROH with his hard work at Anarchy Pro Wrestling and natural charisma so the two past MWR Future stars were going to get there with or without any support of MWR. Just as Zero-One star, Jonathan Gresham and Jake Dirden of Pro Wrestling NOAH have to be able to travel overseas with or without MWR.

I do hope that some extra love from the site has helped them and each and every wrestler that has been mention on this very site.

While MWR continues to grow stronger with each and every day, and after traveling this weekend with the a 10 plus hour round trip to both St Louis Anarchy and Zero One I was wandering just how I had hoped that MWR and myself would be looked at when it is all said and done.

For some reason a man came to mind that represented just what I had hoped would be how most would feel towards the site. That man is “The Human Wrecking Ball” Pete Madden. Throughout the Midwest there are some really great people that are involved with the MWR Promotions that we cover. Just as there is in your day to day life, sometimes there are cliques, hard feelings and yes, sometimes back stabbing. It’s just a way of life.

From what I have heard, in Pete’s prime he was one of the very best in St Louis in his day. I can believe that as I have seen him “re-debut” in Kansas City for Metro Pro Wrestling for a retirement tour, and though the fans did not know who Madden was before then, after some really great matches with the likes of Outtkast , MsChif, and Steven J Girthy he is now one of the most loved men in that promotion. I have had the pleasure of speaking to and photographing Madden in action quite a few times in the past couple of years.

For the MWR fans that have not seen Madden or met him, let me say it is not only the skills that he is respected for in the ring that I want MWR and myself to be compared to, it is the person he is out of the ring and the respect that he has among his friends that I have strive for MWR’S reputation.

Whenever his name is brought up from others, I have yet to hear anyone speak badly on him. More impressive than that is when Madden mentions others it is always a positive vibe.

If you are a friend of Pete Madden, I would have to say that you could not ask for any better. When Madden tells a story on his friend “The Magic Man”, you can really feel that he cares for him. Mention his friend and fellow wrestler the Drill Instructors, book “Blood Tables and Chairs” and a smile will come to his face and a funny story that puts his friend in the best of light. The same can be said for his friends Keith Smith, Chris Gough, the promotion SHIMMER, and Jim and Crystal just to name a few.

 photo IMG_1121_zpsd474df69.jpg

Steven J Girthy and Pete Madden had one of the most entertaining matches of 2012 at Metro Pro Wrestling. Us at MWR did not give it the proper coverage due to time just slipping away faster than we could up with the news and life in general. Still do yourself a favor and check out MPW on Youtube for a very fun match. Just one of the thousands that MWR has covered through the years.- Photo Credit Brian Kelley

When Madden wrestles a rookie, I can tell he wanted to do the best to have a great match with that youngster. He was supportive with his opponent; the fans and the man across the ring were rewarded. With Pete Madden, I truly believe that after he comes up to say hello to myself and Dubray at a show that he is happy to see us. That he appreciates what little we do. To put it crudely, Madden is not fake.

I strive for myself and MWR to be like Pete Madden. The goal is to be sincere with each and every promoter, wrestler, and fan that we meet through our travels throughout the Midwest. From day one we have done our best to treat everyone as if they were Ric Flair or Harley Race. If a deal was struck between us and the promotions or wrestlers I hope they can say that we are a group that stands by our word.

I can only guess that there is people that Madden dislikes, and feels as if they are better than others in the ring, but I have yet to hear from him a negative comment about the person from Madden just to make himself sound better or to knock another just to be talking. I am sure that Madden is aware that he may have a friend that is not perfect and he may not agree with, but Madden seems to surround himself with people that he truly likes.

Though many of his friends are/were awesome in the squared circle, I don’t believe that he chooses who his friends are by where they are considered talent wise among others. In other words he does not let other people choose who he likes. He appears to be happy to see others succeed while at times some are a little jealous of the success of others.

At times I contemplate if we were to work with one promotion, if I would be able to grow in my talent of photos and I would have stronger friendships with that group. For instance this week our good friend Dan Gier is celebrating his last match with WLW as a ring announcer, and I have even yet to mention it on the site.

Not out of disrespect for him, but time has flown by with school and life and now we are a week away and I have yet to honor him on the site. Wrestling friends this is one of my closest friends in the sport and I have not done that Dan, I feel bad, but be sure that he will be shown some love in the 2013 Yearbook as well during this very important 3,000 post.

A great compliment came from promoter Justin Clark of New Midwest Wrestling, at the end of 2012, I called to let Clark know that we were wanting to cover their show after an 6-8 month absence of being at one of his shows. I mentioned to him that I was concerned that he was upset that we had not been there during that extended time period and that he took it personal and wouldn’t want us back. Clark’s reply to me was a blunt and honest statement, “Brian, I don’t pay you to do the great work that you do with MWR, so whatever you do for NMW and my wrestlers I appreciate it and you guys are always welcomed at my shows.”

 photo IMG_7421_zps1f86f023.jpg

If you are looking at this photo by the skills of the photographer (MWR’s Brian Kelley) then you would not be impressed. Yet, the photo shows off a very small portion of our friends via the MWR Site. Seen here at St Louis Anarchy back in July is Patrick, Drew (Ringsyders ) an original MWR family member Kari Williams, Dubray Tallman and Gary thus making this photo a great example of the good times that you and your friends can have at a local pro wrestling show.

A part of me hates the fact that we even have to set up room on the merchandise table at shows that we appear. The reason though is that the money we make at the shows recently has been the difference of us coming to the following week’s shows or not. So please let it be known that I do appreciate the fact that the promotions and wrestlers have understood why we do that, and the fans know that your purchase helps out MWR, as we hope that you purchase items from the wrestlers and promoters while you are there at the show. Money does not drive me, being a part of pro wrestling is what has brought the 3,000 post to a reality. Though I can not lie, it softens my heart to see you all support MWR by wearing our t-shirts and hats.

With that said I hope that if we are your friend you know we care for you and we are sincere. There are so many that we will support and speak high on. All of the MWR friends are the Ric Flairs to us, if you think less of us for calling the men and women such as Herb Simmons, Chris Gough, TNT Keny G, Jason Jones, Lucy Mendez, Adam Testa, Great Cheyenne, Hardcore Andy, Darla Saggs, Darin Corbin, Miss Natural, Patrick Brandmeyer , Evan Gelistico Jeremy Wyatt, the Iceman, Raven Johnson ,Ben Simon, The Hooligans, Mike Van Hoogstraat,Mike Gordon, Showtime Bradley Charles, Jerry Creager, Cody Murphy, Gary Jay, Mike Sydal, Kyle Valle, Sean Chambers, Dee Clark, Bull Schmitt, Brandon Espinosa , Peyton Mitchell, Eric Allen, Steve Bishop, Matt Murphy and Corrie Mcdowell as just a few of our friends ,then I do respect that, but know that we are happy to call them friends.

Some of the before mentioned are among the most influential men and women in pro wrestling in the Midwest today while others have no power at all. Still all the names have our appreciation just the same.

If by chance you feel as if your name should have been mentioned in the list of friends above then yes you are just as important. Please know that not to be mentioned in this one post, is something that I hope that you understand is trivial compared to what you truly mean to MWR every day.

So with post 3, 000 we say thank you and let you know that we hope that we can live up to standards of Pete Madden as MWR heads into the next stage of the “MWR Years”

MWR Trading card #100 Harley Race

Posted by flairwhoooooo on January 22, 2013

Art work Rob Schamberger

As seen on PWTorch, We are thrilled to announce that we will be ending the MWR Trading card set with the biggest star EVER in the Midwest. That man is none other than the former 8-time NWA Worlds Champion and Hall of Famer, Harley Race.

This fall it was announced that Missouri native Harley Race would be inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame this weekend. Race has been inducted into every reputable wrestling Hall of Fame from around the world, yet it is hard to believe that he has yet been a member of this one in an area where Pro Wrestling was considered by many to be “the” place to work under Sam Muchnick years ago. Muchnick and the great Lou Thesz are the only men that this HOF has honored so it is with great anticipation that Race will be inducted as well.

Race and pro Wrestling has been synonymous around the world. His impact has been felt on many stars from yesterday to today. Many of the men and women that are in the MWR Trading card set have been trained by Race including former 3-time Tag Team Champion Trevor Murdock, Steve Fender, Miss Natural, Elvis Aliaga , Mark Sterling, Kevin Von Erich’s son Ross and Marshal, and current NTX wrestler Brian Breaker. At the same time others have been influenced by watching him when they were younger or studying video tapes of some of the greatest matches in the history of the sport.

So it was with great excitement when Mr. Race agreed to be a part of the MWR Trading card set so it is a great honor to have one of my heroes and a main reason why I am a wrestling fan to end the first ever MWR Trading card set.

To make the card even more special we have teamed up with the hottest artist in wrestling today, Rob Schamberger to do the artwork for the card. Schamberger has been featured on WWE.COM and is currently painting every World Champion in the history of Pro Wrestling.

So the time could not be any better with number 100 and his induction into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame as MWR is about to deliver a trading card that collectors will cherish for years to come.

Details on how you can sponsor Harley Race on his way to the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.

Posted by flairwhoooooo on January 7, 2013

Photobucket

If you would like to sponsor an add for the 8-times NWA World Heavyweight Champion Harley Race The Missouri Sports Hall of Fame has sent us the attached information . Check out the sales sheet that provides details regarding the Enshrinement from Craig Winegar.

On the front side of the sheet, you will find the date, times and locations of the various events associated with the Enshrinement. Also listed are the various levels of sponsorships that are available, advertising opportunities and ticket pricing. On the back of the sheet, all of the members of the Class of 2013 are listed. As you will see, this is a very impressive class! I have also attached a second sheet that contains the ad specs for the calendar and the program. Our ad deadline for our printed program is Friday, January 11. We will also have at least one 20 page insert and that ad deadline will be on Friday, January 18.

In our program, each inductee and/or team will receive a full page devoted to describing their accomplishments during their playing/coaching careers along with several photos of the inductee during their playing days. Last year, our program was 122 pages and we also had a 16 page insert. Each inductee also receives one month in our 18 month calendar. On their page, they will have a short biography and one photo. There is an ad space of ¼ page for your company to have their logo and a brief description. Your logo will also appear at the bottom of each month of the calendar, for additional exposure. Each inductee will also have a trading card produced. On the front of the card will be an action photo of the inductee, another photo will appear on the back along with a brief description of their career highlights. On the lower front of each card, there is a space for your company logo to appear. I would very much like for you to consider placing a congratulatory ad in our program and if your schedule will allow, I would like for you to consider attending this wonderful event. Each ticket holder not only will attend the dinner and ceremony, but they are also invited to attend our afternoon reception at the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.

This reception is from 11 until 1 and is presented by Meek’s The Builders Choice. It is a come and go affair and a prime opportunity to mingle with all of the inductees while enjoying heavy hors d’oeuvres and beverages and exploring the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame and its 32,000 square foot museum.

The Missouri Sports Hall of Fame is a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization. We receive no state funding and rely on acquiring corporate partners and private donations, from events such as our Enshrinement, to keep our museum doors open. Our January Enshrinement is our largest event of the year, both financially and in terms of attendance. We have averaged 1,500 people over the last 5 years at this event. Each individual ticket holder will receive a copy of the printed program and insert, a calendar and a set of trading cards. Therefore, your ad will be seen by over 1,500 people from across the state of Missouri.
If you should have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Thank you in advance for your time and your consideration to participate in our January Enshrinement. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Pro Wrestling NOAH’s Takeshi MORISHIMA and Harley Race delivers wrestling knowledge at the annual WLW/WWE/ NOAH camp.

Posted by flairwhoooooo on December 11, 2012

By Brian Kelley

What a great honor it was to be invited once again to the annual Harley Race World League Wrestling, Pro Wrestling NOAH, WWE camp.

I was able to come on the third day of the week long camp in Eldon, Missouri where the students had just gathered to stretch for the high demanding training that the camp would prepare them for.

While they were busy preparing for the day I was happy to see Pro Wrestling NOAH’S Ryu NAKADA, Ken Hirayama and wrestling superstar Takeshi MORISHIMA out watching over the events , while the 8-TIME NWA Worlds Champion had just came out of his office to get to work.

A great group of students took part in the camp, as well as the young and hungry WLW students. MWR fans will recognize the WLW Head Trainer Jason Jones and students Jack Gamble, Ryan Drago, Britton Tucker, Stacey O’Brien, the Cancun Kid, Chris Harris, Jon Webb and Elvis Algeria. Also in the mix were MWR wrestlers Dirty Jake Dirden, Mizfitt Mannerz and Justin Reno all in the camp.

Several wrestlers traveled from all around the country and overseas to gain valuable experience that will help them for years to come.

Throughout the day the students listened intently as they were shown proper techniques and in working wrestling moves to make them look more crisp and safer for the one delivering the move and the one that was taken them.

With two rings set up one for beginners and the other for the more experience, the younger wrestlers took part in how to take a proper landing and positioning. Before long the students were each chosen a partner for a tag team match or was set for singles and given time with their opponents to come up with a game plan.

Then the fun really began as each of them wrestled their singles or tag match. After each match the students respectfully shook hands as they headed towards Race and the Pro Wrestling NOAH instructors to receive feedback on their matches. MORISHIMA who spoke little English would relay his thoughts to NOAH’s Hirayama who would then let the wrestlers know what he liked and what they could improve on, as both NAKADA and Race would also provide more insight into the two of the great minds around the world today in the sport.

After lunch, I had came in a little bit late and the students were around the ring with MORISHIMA, NAKADA, and Hirayama speaking to them. They asked the students if there were any questions or anything that they wanted to work on. When Jake Dirden wanted to work on a move, MORISHIMA was quickly in the ring working with him on the move as Hirayama translated the important information. I could tell that MORISHIMA was enjoying giving his insight but was very focused and cared about what information he was giving to them.

Before long many of the students had taken the turn to work on various wrestling moves and techniques with the superstar.

As the day was heading to over three fourths done, the students each took turns in another match for Race and the instructors to watch. At times after the review was done for the students from all the men I would see Race pull them aside to give them even more further training. How many people can say that they had an 8-time Worlds Champion pull them aside for a one on one?

I was told that the camp would be done at four but neither Race nor the NOAH family were in any hurry to call it a day as time would slip by and it was 5:30 before I knew it.

MORISHIMA was set to call it a week as he was heading out, while WWE Superstar Steve Regal was set to come in the next day for a fresh set of eyes and views for these young students.

I was able to ask MORISHIMA his thoughts on this year’s camp and he stated that “He was thrilled to be back here in Eldon with Harley Race again, and that he had been a Champion at WLW a few years ago. Though he enjoyed assisting in the students this week, he looked at the week as a chance for him to learn as well.” He went on to say that he thanked Race, WLW and the students for this year’s camp”

I had caught up with a few of the students who were kind enough to give me their take on the experience of a WLW/NOAH/WWE camp and here were just a few testimonies from the students themselves.

This year’s camp has been very productive. With this being the second camp that I’ve participated in there’s no doubt its well worth the time and money. As far as I know there’s nowhere else that you can go to have the opportunity to be seen by and learn from two major promotions like WWE and Pro-Wrestling NOAH.”—- Elvis Aliaga

What a great week in Eldon, MO at the Harley Race Wrestling Academy. It was a true honor and privilege to learn from Jason Jones, Takeshi Morishima, Ken Hirayama, Ryu Nakata, Ace Steel, William Regal and of course the man himself Mr. Harley Race. Marshall and Ross Von Erich wisely seek out the wrestling edge from Pro Wrestling Noah and WLW. See them this weekend in Warrensburg and Eldon, Missouri.

In the 80’s wrestling was on fire, and there were no wrestlers that were more loved than the Fritz Von Erich’s sons, Kerry, Kevin, David, Mike and Chris Von Erich. Though their home was the Texas promotion World Class Championship Wrestling, fans across the country and around the world fell in love with the Von Erich’s. Fans cheered , shouted and cried at times as they took on such villains as the Freebirds, “Gentleman” Chris Adams, “Gorgeous” Gino Hernandez, One Man Gang as well as having wrestling the great manager Gary Hart trying to take down the Von Erichs.

One of the greatest moments in wrestling history was on May 6, 1984, when Kerry Von Erich defeated “Nature Boy” Ric Flair in a historic match, in front of over 45,000 fans at Texas Stadium to win the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. Kerry’s victory was a tribute to his brother David, who had died three months earlier and for whom the event, the David Von Erich Memorial Parade of Champions, was named.

In their prime the Von Erich’s were the Beatles, Elvis and Jim Hendrix combined. Loved not only in the states but their impact on wrestling in Japan is still felt today.

Last fall, the fans around the Midwest were thrilled when Harley Race announced that participating during the annual WLW, WWE and Japans Pro Wrestling NOAH was the recent inductee in the WWE Hall of Fame Kevin Von Erich would be appearing.

During the week of the camp MWR was a guest of WLW and Pro Wrestling NOAH as Kevin along with WWE’S Steven Regal and Ricky Steamboat. The three stars along with Race taught the young wrestlers around the country who were fortunate to take the week long camp to learn with three of the top wrestling promotions around the world.

During the annual camp show, the fans came up to MWR with smiles that would remind you of a young child at Christmas time as they spoke about the kindness of one Kevin Von Erich. Sometime you meet your heroes that you grow up with and they live up to your expectations. It was an easy recap to do when so many fans left happy meeting Kevin, Harley, Steamboat and being entertained by the stars of WLW with a stacked card that featured a main event match between Steven Regal vs. Ace Steel.

The Pro Wrestling NOAH website reported earlier this year on January 14 that Kevin’s sons Marshall and Ross Von Erich who had participated in the WLW/Pro Wrestling NOAH/WWE camp in the fall, were on their way to Japan to work on their skills at the Pro Wrestling Noah dojo.

NOAH GM Ryu Nakata and USA and foreign affairs representative Ken Hirayama visited Kevin Von Erich & his family at their home. Kevin was pleased to meet with Ryu and showed him as his boys Ross & Marshall works out at their gym and teaching those fundamentals of the professional wrestling.

Kevin Von Erich and his sons arrived safely at Haneda Int’l Airport. As they announced their participation for NOAH Development program officially at the live coverage atNTV’s building media park along with many fans and other media outlets.

Ross & Marshall commented as they are very excited and honored to be able to join the NOAH organization and can’t wait to start training .Kevin commented as he was very pleased to have his 2 sons joining NOAH to start building the basic foundation.

Marshall and Ross are both natural athletes as Ross was highly respected as he won several fitness and weight lifting competitions as well as coach’s awards and recognition for his performance throughout high school and college. Marshall excelled at both football and discus, being named to the Kauai Interscholastic Federation All-Star team as a wide receiver and breaking a 12 year old island-wide record in discus.

When I met Marshall and Ross, I knew of their athletic background as I was honored to interview their dad who proudly spoke of them. When I saw them they were soft spoken and while I saw them in the ring during the camp I could tell they were timid and shy hitting the ropes.

So when I received word from the offices of WLW that Ross and Marshall were to make their wrestling debut in April in the Midwest, I was excited about the opportunity to take photos of the Von Erich’s first matches. To be a man and to be honest with you, I was not expecting much from them as far as ring work as they were so new.

Boy was I wrong. Pro Wrestling NOAH in a few months had them in amazing shape and more than ready for their debut. Their first night in Sedan, Kansas they would fall down in defeat against the WLW Champion “The Prince” Jason Jones and the 2011 MWR Future Star recipient Brian Breaker. A great crowd and Pro Wrestling NOAH videotaping the matches for them to be broadcast in Japan there is no doubt that the pressure was on the young boys.

MWR fans may know that Jones and Breaker has been at war with each other for the WLW title but with the newcomers of the Von Erich’s invading their home turf, they seem to have joined together to keep them from winning their first match.

With the taste of defeat from two of the finest young wrestlers in the country, Marshall and Ross had to regroup, oh how I would of loved to have been in the car from Sedan, Kansas to Richmond, Missouri while Kevin gave his two sons advice on how to improve their chances to take down the team as good as Jones and Breaker.

The night in Richmond started out rocky for the youngest Von Erich, Marshall who went one on one against the former WLW Champion and a man who has made his way last year for a tour of Pro Wrestling NOAH Brian Breaker along with former WWE Star Trevor Murdock. Though Marshall was in phenomenal shape, Breaker still had the edge with his power and size, but the young Von Erich used his speed to have Breaker in trouble.

Yet, out from the back came the sneaky snake Jason Jones, who had come to ringside and interfered just long enough to give Breaker the chance to steal the victory.

Brian Breaker and Jason Jones 2, the Von Erich brothers zero.

The stage was set at that time for as the Von Erich’s challenged Breaker and Jones to a rematch in the main event of the evening.

History was made in April in the Midwest as fans got to witness one of the very first tags in the history of the 3rd generation Von Erich’s as Marshall tags in his older brother Ross. (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

The building seemed too erupted, the action seem to be at a furious pace from the start.

Then it happened Marshall locked on the fearsome “Von Erich” Claw on the champ Jones, the fan in me almost shouted in joy as I seemed to have been transported back in 1983 but thankfully, I was able to regain my composure to take photos and remember that I was there in a professional capacity. Jones may be evil at times but he can wrestle and by no means is not an idiot did not hesitate to find a way out of the Claw before Marshall had it completely locked in.

With the Von Erich’s on fire, Breaker and Jones used their experience and a little cheating to get the edge it was looking bleak for the young Von Erich’s.

The young fans screamed with all their might to encourage the third generation stars to fight back against the odds and dirty deeds being dished out by Breaker and Jones.

Just as fast and furious the match had started the end was about to unravel for the WLW Champ Jones and Breaker as Ross delivered bruising kicks left and right, while Marshall locked on the Claw on Breaker then hoisted him up for a slam…

Yet Jones made the save and threw Marshall outside the ring and got the edge on Ross and was prepared for a big move when Marshall was able to get away from Breaker as the two had been going at each other at ringside. Marshall delivered a dropkick on Jones from the back allowing Ross to use the leverage for a roll up as the referee hit the mat 1-2-3.

Pro Wrestling NOAH caught it on tape to take back home to the millions of fans in Japan ,both MWR and Pro Wrestling NOAH were at ringside to photograph the historic moment while HOF Kevin Von Erich and Harley Race watching attentively as Marshall and Ross captured their first win in their career.

Marshall and Ross will continue their training at Harley Race’s Wrestling Academy for the next few months to go along with their impressive training at NOAH.

MWR Fans I urge you to take each and every opportunity to see the Von Erich sons in action while you can in the Midwest. WLW is always worth the price of admission but you will want to say you were there when Von Erich mania began.

Ross and Marshall along with their dad Kevin will be action this Friday and Saturday night in Warrensburg, Missouri and Eldon, Missouri along with the rest of the stars of WLW, Jones, Breaker, Steve Fender, Ryan Drago, Jeff Strong, Jack Gamble, Stacey O’Brien, the Great Cheyenne, Britton Tucker, Elvis Aliaga plus much more.

Remember fans that this Saturday in Eldon, Missouri WLW will be honoring the 8-time NWA World Champion with a special Harley Race Night.

We hope to see you there.
